Medications:
 
You will need to purchase the following at your local pharmacy:
 
One 3-ounce bottle of Fleets Phosphosoda
Four Dulcolax tablets
 
The Day Before the Colonoscopy:
 
You must be on a clear liquid diet the entire day. This includes water, clear fruit juice, jello, and soup broth.
 
At 4:00 PM.
 
Drink 1 ½ ounces (half the bottle) of the Fleets Phosphosoda mixed with 8 ounces of liquid of your choice. (We recommend ginger ale). Follow this with three more glasses of any drink of your choice.
 
Also at 4:00 PM
 
Take 4 Dulcolax tablets with one glass of water or clear liquid.
 
At 9:00 PM
 
Drink the last 1 ½ ounces of the Fleets Phosphosoda mixed with 8 ounces of liquid of your choice. Follow this with three more glasses of any drink of your choice.
 
The Day Of the Colonoscopy:
 
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
 
Take your morning medications with as little water as possible.
DO NOT take your diabetic medication unless told to do so.
 
Please be on time for your appointment. There must be someone available to drive you home following your procedure because you will not be permitted to leave the facility on your own. Plan to be at the endoscopy center for a total of 3 hours. It is also recommended that someone stay with you after the procedure.
 
Your results will be given to you at your follow up appointment.
 
We will contact your insurance company to obtain prior approval for the procedure. It is very important that you make sure we have the correct insurance information.
 
Example of Liquid Foods:
 
Tea and Coffee (no cream or dairy products, sugar is okay)
Apple juice, White grape juice, Gatorade, natural cranberry juice
Soda of any kind
Clear fruit flavored powdered drinks
Flavored jello (no red or green)
Soup broth (You may have any kind of soup but make sure to strain it)
Popsicles (no red or green)
 
Sample Menu:
 
Breakfast: White grape juice, Chicken broth, Tea/Coffee
Morning Snack: Jello
Lunch: Apple juice, Beef broth, Jello
Afternoon Snack: Soda, Hard Candy
Dinner: Cranberry Juice, Chicken broth, Jello, Coffee/Tea
Bedtime: Popsicle
 
PLEASE DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS AND WATER ALL DAY!
 
NOTE: Preparation for a colonoscopy may clean your bowels out so well that you will not have a bowel movement the day following your procedure. This is normal.
